The Act establishes the Central Consumer Protection Authority (Chapter III), a regulator that can investigate unfair trade practices and false or misleading advertisements, order recalls and impose penalties. Complaints are decided by District, State and National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commissions under Chapter IV.
Other chapters deal with consumer protection councils, consumer mediation, product liability of manufacturers, service providers and sellers, and offences and penalties.
